U15s Diamonds vs Bolton Lads & Girls Club (H) - 25th Sept 2022
The Diamonds put their marker down!
Match Report
Milnrow Juniors Diamonds 12 v 0 Bolton Lads & Girls Club
The girls went into Sunday’s opening league fixture versus one of last season’s title rivals, BLGC, being asked to make a strong start and put a marker down for the season to come.
The girls didn’t disappoint and after just 3 minutes, Liv’s cross/shot was deflected in by a GLGC defender. The girls should have had a 2nd on the 5-minute mark but made amends after 8 minutes when a short corner between Holly & Lexie resulted in Holly putting in a fine cross and on the end of it, an even finer header by Libby, to make it 2-0.
It was all one-way traffic and on the 14-minute mark, a strong mazy run by Mia, going past 3 players and when eventually dispossessed, the ball fell to Libby, who coolly lobbed the keeper, into the top far corner of the net making it 3-0.
20-minute substitutions – Keeva on for Lexis & Cienna on for Libby.
BLGC, clearly shellshocked, got a footing into the game and started to gain some confidence and on 28 minutes broke down the right and only for a fine save by Ellie (who tipped the call onto the bar) kept the score 3-0.
30-minute substitutions – Ava on for Sadie & Maisie on for Liv.
With the Diamonds back in control of the game, after some good possession by BLGC, it was no surprise when 2 minutes before half-time, a strong run by Holly resulted in her producing a great finish to make it 4-0.
Half Time: 4-0
Half Time substitutions – Libby on for Lois & Lexie on for Ella.
At half time, the girls were asked not to take their foot off the gas and go all out and it took just 30 seconds after the restart. Lexie’s brilliant run resulted in her shot hitting the post but was followed up by Libby to poke the ball home and get a hat-trick for her league debut for the Diamonds. 5-0. Libby could have had a fourth on 43 minutes, when her excellent run resulted in her being brought down in the box and with captain and penalty taker Lois off the pitch, Libby stepped up, but the BLGC keeper made a good save.
Last season’s leading scorer Cienna got in on the act in the 48th minute, when a marvellous defence splitting through ball from Mia, found Cienna and the BLGC defence had no answer to her pace, and she calmly slotted the ball home for 6-0. The Diamonds were really in the mood now and on 51 minutes, Holly’s free kick hit the post, but Libby was on hand again to put the ball in the back of the net for her fourth and Diamonds seventh. 7-0.
On 56 minutes, in an almost identical goal to her first, Holly got her second and 8th on the day for the Diamonds. 3 minutes later, Girl of the Game Lexie, got her reward for a fantastic performance, with a well taken finish.
9-0.
60-minutes substitutions – Lois on for Holly & Liv on for Poppy.
Cienna got her 2nd of the day, again out pacing the BLGC defence and calmly finishing, then got her hat-trick 7 minutes later making it 11-0.
With 4 minutes remaining, Diamonds got their 12th when Maisie’s shot eluded all and crept in at the far post.
Full time: 12-0
A fine performance from the girls collectively and as well as the goal scorers, excellent individual performances from Keeva, Mia, Ella & Poppy.
